Obituary for Johnnie F. Rainer

Johnnie F. Rainer
Johnnie Fredrick Rainer, 72, passed away Sunday, October 8, 2017. Services will be held on Thursday, October 12, 2017, at Old Mission Mortuary, 3424 E. 21st Wichita, Kansas, at 10:30 A.M.

Johnnie was born August 29, 1945, in Newton, Mississippi to B. G. and Colleen Rainer (nee Thomas). He was the 4th of their five children. The family moved from Newton to Wichita in the 1950s when jobs at Boeing Aircraft were plentiful.

Johnnie graduated from Southeast High School in Wichita in 1963. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corp in Morocco and other nearby countries. Just like many in his family, Johnnie was competitive. He loved all sports, but golf was his favorite pastime. At one time, he was a golf instructor at Clapp Municipal Golf Course in Wichita.

Johnnie married Cindy L. (Williams) Rainer on July 12, 1969, in Wichita. Together, they had 3 lovely daughters, along with a lifelong friendship.

Later, he moved to Wharton, Texas with Vicki L. Luper. They lived there for a number of years before moving back to Wichita several years ago when Johnnie wanted to spend more time with his daughters and grandchildren and Vicki wanted to be closer to her parents and other relatives. Family was the most important part of the lives of both Vicki and Johnnie.

Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents and by a baby sister, Peggy Joyce Rainer.

He is survived by his wife, Vicki, of Wichita; three daughters Carrie Ann (Brandon) Herzberg, Sarah Rachel (Jack) Witt and Zona Jo (Todd) Bartlett, all of Wichita; three siblings, Clarence E. Rainer of Columbus, Texas, Patsy (John) Hotz of Heber Springs, Arkansas, and Jimmie T. (Linda) Rainer of Chandler, Arizona; eight grandchildren, Ashlyn, Aspen and Addie Herzberg, Ella and Jackson Witt and Corrigan, Caden and Chloe Bartlett; Vicki’s two sons, Ray (Kay) and Bradley, three grandchildren, Blade, Christian and Koehn, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established with The American Cancer Society and the Department of Veterans Affairs.
